When Sacramento Kings point guard Rajon Rondo responded to a report on Monday that he used a homosexual slur in an altercation with NBA official Bill Kennedy earlier this month, though Rondo stopped short of issuing an actual apology.

On Tuesday, Rondo clarified his comments, saying that his tweets the day before should not be interpreted as a non-apology in the following statement

“Yesterday, I said that my words toward Bill Kennedy were unacceptable and did not reflect my feelings toward the LGBT community. Some have interpreted my comments as a non-apology. I want to be clear, from the bottom of my heart that I am truly sorry for what I said to Bill. There is no place on or off the court for language that disrespects anyone's sexual orientation. That is not who I am or what I believe and I will strive every day to be a better person.”

Rondo was suspended for one game by the NBA for the incident. According to Yahoo Sports, the NBA is not expected to issue any further discipline to Rondo.
