John Wall voted for Bradley Beal to be an All-Star instead of himself
Washington Wizards guard Bradley Beal is enjoying an incredible season. At the halfway point, Beal is averaging 22.3 points and 3.7 assists per game as the Wizards have climbed to third in the Eastern Conference. Yet despite Beal's numbers and Washington's success, he was left off the East's roster in favor of Carmelo Anthony.
That's a decision that doesn't sit well with Beal's teammate and four-time All-Star John Wall. Wall, who made this year's team, sat down with Fox Sports' Chris Broussard and revealed that he had voted for Beal instead of himself.
"For the two guard I voted for my teammate Brad," Wall said. "I feel like he’s had a heck of a year. Then as a point guard I voted for Isaiah [Thomas], I feel like he’s had the Celtics rolling."
Wall went on to reveal that he also chose LeBron James and another All-Star snub in Hassan Whiteside.
"I thought [Whiteside] was having a great year," Wall said of the Miami Heat center. "He might not be winning much, but to be averaging a double-double and being a legit center, he's doing well."
Ahead of All-Star weekend, Wall looked back on his time with coach John Calipari at Kentucky. Under Calipari, the Wildcats have generated a tremendous amount of elite NBA talent, prompting the coach to state a team comprised of all-Kentucky players would win an NBA title today. With players like Karl Anthony-Towns, Anthony Davis, and former Kentucky teammate Demarcus Cousins backing him up, it's a statement Wall believes as well.
"Yeah I think so," Wall said. "Those guys have a lot of heart and they have pride in defending. I mean that’s the key when you have a lot of talent: can you defend?"
