Jordan Mickey: 'I am capable of shooting the NBA three'

Jordan Mickey is, in many ways, the ideal front-court defender in modern NBA basketball. He can guard more than one position all over the floor, has incredible length to deflect passes and is a tremendous shot blocker.

But Mickey's offensive game needs to catch up to his virtuous defense if he's to reach his full potential on the Boston Celtics. Here's what he told MassLive's Jay King about how he views his abilities with the ball:

"'My main goal is to come in, help this team out however I can,' Mickey said, harkening back to his father's advice that defense and rebounding will always get a player on the court. That being said, he added, 'I want to get more consistent with my midrange jump shot. I am capable of shooting the NBA three. I just want to be able to get more comfortable with it.'"

Talk is ultimately cheap, but this mentality is music to Boston's ears. If Mickey can develop a reliable outside shot, he'd become a perfect power forward, someone who can space the floor on one end and devour shots at the rim on the other.

Mickey will have no trouble executing whatever pick-and-roll coverage Brad Stevens throws into his nightly game plan, either. That's a huge plus for a team that should look to base their scheme on what the opponent likes to do, as opposed to having one set, predictable identity.
