Kings reportedly blocking George Karl from hiring his son
The fallout from the rift between Sacramento Kings head coach George Karl and star player DeMarcus Cousins appears to be ongoing.
Kings management is blocking Karl from hiring his son Coby as an assistant coach, according to the Racine Journal Times.
This could be the team's latest attempt to appease Cousins after reports emerged that the team was looking to deal Cousins to the Los Angeles Lakers for the No. 2 pick in this year's draft along with other pieces.
Coby Karl was once represented by Dan Fegan but fired the high-profile agent, who now works for Cousins. Could this be a simple case of the team concerned about perceived nepotism or maybe it's the Kings extending an olive branch to Fegan and Cousins.
It wouldn't be the first time this offseason.
Owner Vivek Ranadive reportedly was against trading Cousins and believed that Karl never wanted to coach Cousins. The team reportedly reached out to Kentucky coach John Calipari, who coached Cousins in college, to gauge his interest in a front office and head coaching position, but Calipari immediately shot down those reports.
Earlier this month, Kings president of basketball operations Vlade Divac told Jim Rome that there were still some hard feelings between Karl and Cousins.
"I will be honest with you, I think it's not pretty right now," Divac said of their relationship. "I'm focused on bringing a better team this year, and I think I did a pretty good job in this free agency, and now I will be focused on the two of them. I think they should think about how they can do the best for this team, and I hope everything goes well."
