Klay Thompson's dad predicts Lakers will end Warriors' win streak
The Golden State Warriors have gotten off to a start that could propel them to an NBA record. However, the father of one player on the team suggests they may fall to one of the league’s worst teams.
Golden State is currently 14-0. One more win would see them tie the 1948-1949 Washington Capitols and 1993-1994 Houston Rockets for the best start to an NBA season. If the Warriors can get past the Nuggets on Sunday, they would have a chance to stand alone at 16-0 with a win on Tuesday over the Lakers. Los Angeles is just 2-10, but Mychal Thompson (former Lakers player and father of Warriors player Klay Thompson) thinks the Lakers will be ones to put an end to Golden State’s winning run.
“They’re going to take the Lakers lightly,” Thompson said on the ESPN radio show he co-hosts, as transcribed by Sporting News
“They’ll look at the Lakers record and go ‘Oh, they’re a lottery team. We’re not going to take them that seriously.’ I think the Lakers will go out there with a sneak attack and surprise and shock the world. And like you said, I’m predicting the Laker victory in Golden State to stop their 15-game winning streak and prevent them from breaking the record.”
The Warriors are clearly the best team in the NBA and the Lakers are looking like they will be selecting near the top of next year’s draft. While Tuesday’s game will be a David vs. Goliath matchup, stranger things have certainly happened in the world of sports.
Golden State, of course, has one game to play before the Lakers come to Oracle Arena. And a slip-up versus the Nuggets would make Tuesday’s game have less meaning. However, if the Warriors beat the Nuggets and fall to the Lakers, remember who went out on a limb and called it. Thompson certainly has been on the money with predictions in the past.
