Kobe trademarked the loneliest, most fitting Kobe motto ever

Published Jan. 15, 2016 12:52 p.m. ET

Kobe Bryant knows that he might not be the world's best friend. He allowed as much during an interview this summer with BET, wrapping up his career in one bold quote:

"Friends come and go, but banners hang forever."

We got a good laugh out of it at the time, but it appears Bryant's not messing around with this lonely motto. Thanks to a hawk-eyed NBA fan, it appears Bryant has trademarked on a variation of that phrase for Kobe, Inc.: "Friends Hang Sometimes / Banners Hang Forever."

Law website Justia.com shows the trademark was filed in July 2015.

So essentially, the next thing you might purchase from Kobe's brand could conceivably bear this motto.

Leave it to Bryant to turn being a jerk into a profitable endeavor.
