LA Clippers: Blake Griffin dealing with swelling in left calf

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

In the LA Clippers’ 91-70 loss to the Indiana Pacers, Blake Griffin wore a sleeve on his left leg to help combat soreness in his calf.

Blake Griffin has finally returned healthy this season after battling through the most troubling year of his career in 2015-16. He suffered a partially torn quadricep on the LA Clippers‘ 2015 Christmas Day game against the Los Angeles Lakers, and to add even more time out to the quad injury that took far longer to recover than expected, he broke his right hand in the altercation with Matias Testi. Griffin missed 47 games and his season was ended early in the playoffs as his quadricep injury flared up, but thankfully his current health issue is far, far less concerning.

According to Broderick Turner of the Los Angeles Times, Griffin is dealing with swelling in his left calf, which is why you’d have noticed him wearing a sleeve on his left leg in the Clippers’ 91-70 loss to the Indiana Pacers on Sunday.

He was still able to play 34 minutes just fine and tally 16 points, nine rebounds and three assists, but the calf issue will be something for the team to monitor going forwards.

Griffin did settle for jumpers at times and didn’t have as many powerful drives past players down the lane as we’ve been used to seeing, although part of this is likely a general lack of intensity, which unfortunately matched the Clippers’ entire performance.

Thankfully the calf only has soreness and he could play with a sleeve, though, so it’s nothing too concerning.

The calf is also something Griffin didn’t have trouble with last season during all his quadricep problems. The tear was specifically in the upper part of the leg in his quadricep, rather than bothering his knee or anything below in his calf.

The LA Clippers will look to snap their lacklustre two-game losing streak in a Wednesday matchup on the road against the Brooklyn Nets. For the sake of earning an emphatic bounce back win and returning to top form at both ends of the court, the Clippers will need Blake at his best.
