Lakers reportedly checking out '50-60 players' in anticipation of the draft

Things are pretty simple for the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2015 NBA Draft, right? General manager Mitch Kupchak just has to wait for the Minnesota Timberwolves to pick either Jahlil Okafor or Karl-Anthony towns, and then he passes the word on to Adam Silver that the Lakers are taking the other one. Easy.

In the words of a different sport's most enthusiastic analyst: "Not so fast, my friends." Beyond the possibility that the Lakers will take someone other than one of the top two big men in the draft, the No. 2 overall pick isn't the only selection Los Angeles will be making. The Lakers have the No. 27 pick thanks to the Jeremy Lin trade and early second-round pick (No. 34) as well. And while it's true that most second rounders don't make much of an impact, there are diamonds in the rough to be found. A team has to do its due diligence all the way through the talent pool.

And Lakers supporters will be happy to hear that Kupchak is turning over as many rocks as possible in search of pieces to help Los Angeles get back to championship contention. According to TWC SportsNet's Serena Winters, Kupchak said that the Lakers expect to "bring in 50-60 players" who might go in the 27-34 range.
