Luke Walton ripped into the Lakers
Following the Los Angeles Lakers eighth straight loss, head coach Luke Walton ripped into the Lakers
Following the Lakers loss to the Brooklyn Nets, Luke Walton ripped into his young Lakers squad, challenging them to be better following their eighth straight loss.
The Lakers led the Nets going into the fourth quarter, but were outscored 32-21. The Lakers last victory came on Nov. 30, against the Chicago Bulls.
After losing their eighth straight, Walton raised his voice and called out his team for its lack of focus and hustle. Nick Young described the post-game talk as Walton getting his point over, and calling the team out. D’Angelo Russell described Walton’s approach as being a challenge to the struggling young team. Despite being called out by the coach, Larry Nance Jr. described Walton as a players’ coach.
Walton is in his first year as coach of the Lakers. Prior to this year, Walton served as an assistant coach for the Golden State Warriors. Walton served as the team’s interim head coach as Steve Kerr recovered from back surgery. Under Walton, the Warriors started the season 39-4. Walton is currently the league’s youngest head coach at 36 years old.
The Lakers are 10-18, and are still looking for their first win in December. The Lakers surprised many by getting off to a 9-7 start, a year after finishing 17-65.
Los Angeles will look to get its first win in the month of December when they play the 76ers (6-19) in Philadelphia Friday night. The Lakers are 4-11 on the road this season. If the Lakers lose to the Eastern Conference’s last place team the 76ers, the Lakers players should prepare themselves for another loud screaming challenge from Walton.
