The basketball season is approaching rapidly and we’re all waiting to see if our New York Knicks can make some noise.

New York made many valuable additions, but this article is referencing one key player in particular. The Knicks signed Courtney Lee to a four-year, $48 million dollar contract.

Lee spent the first eight seasons of his NBA career with six different teams. In 2014-15, he split time between the Charlotte Hornets and Memphis Grizzlies.

Over the course of his career, Lee has been a steady performer. He’s averaged close to 10 points per game for his career while shooting 45.0 percent from the field and 38.4 percent from 3-point range.

He shot 45.4 percent from the field and 37.8 percent from distance in 2015-16.

Although Lee wasn’t a big-name free agent, he brings the Knicks something they’ve been missing over the past few seasons. Lee was the perfect option at the shooting guard position.

Lee defends his matchups much better than anyone the Knicks had starting at the position in 2015-16. Between Arron Afflalo and Sasha Vujacic, Lee is the vastly superior defender.

Lee is also much more consistent than both Vujacic and Afflalo. As I previously mentioned, he’s one of the NBA’s higher percentage shooters.

In terms of the triangle offense, Lee fits well due to his ability to knock down open jumpers at such a high rate.

The Knicks obtaining Lee went over the head of many.

However, the Knicks found their perfect fit for the shooting guard position. Many fans wanted Dwyane Wade or Kent Bazemore, but Lee is a much better option than those two.

Lee and the rest of the Knicks recently spent time together. He’s also trained with various members of the Knicks.

The chemistry between the team is already there.
