New York Knicks starting point guard Derrick Rose will miss his second consecutive game with a back injury. He expects to return on Sunday.

Derrick Rose is rediscovering his star-caliber form during the 2016-17 NBA regular season with the New York Knicks. He’s been a force to be reckoned with on the offensive end of the floor and has made surprisingly clutch contributions on defense.

Unfortunately, Rose will miss his second consecutive game with a lingering back issue.

Rose left the Knicks’ 114-103 victory over the Miami Heat due to back spasms. He was then absent for New York’s 126-94 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday, December 7.

According to Ian Begley of ESPN New York, Rose will miss tonight’s game against the Sacramento Kings, but doesn’t expect to be out long.

Derrick Rose will miss tonight’s game against the Sacramento due to discomfort related to lingering spasms in his back. This is the second straight game Rose has missed due to the ailment, but he is not expected to miss extended time.

The good news is that Rose expects to be active when the Knicks play the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday, December 11.

That’s a promising sign that Rose is merely taking the necessary precautions to avoid further injury at such an early point of the season.

Rose is currently averaging 16.7 points, 4.8 assists, 4.1 rebounds, and 0.8 steals in 31.9 minutes per game. He’s shooting 45.0 percent from the field and 84.2 percent from the free throw line.

Rose is averaging 18.8 points, 4.9 assists, 4.0 rebounds, and 1.0 steals on 45.8 percent shooting from the field over his past 10 appearances.

Brandon Jennings has been playing well enough to step in and start for the Knicks at point guard. The Knicks don’t have a third point guard on the roster, however, which leaves the Knicks vulnerable and without an ideal measure of depth.

Thus, the sooner Rose can return, the better the Knicks will be.

Fortunately, the MRI came back negative and Rose should be available on Sunday.
