Rakeem Christmas could be the answer to Boston's prayers
The Boston Celtics are in desperate need of stable rim protection. One man who can come in and anchor their defense for the next decade. Will they find this player in free agency or via a trade? Maybe.
Or maybe they snatch him up in the draft. With four picks, including two in the first round, Boston is in a great position to take a big man in this month's draft. One possible option is Syracuse center Rakeem Christmas. Here's what SB Nation's CelticsBlog had to say about how he'd fit with the Celtics:
"Among the many impressive feats of his senior season, the most remarkable was his improvement within one year. Christmas saw his numbers increase drastically across the board. His progress wasn't only a product of more playing time, his performances were evidently better, and he showed a wider range of skill. Christmas is already 23 years old so how much he can develop is being questioned, but he seems to be a late bloomer who doesn't plan on stopping. Where Christmas lacks is in the offense department despite his nearly 20 points a game average. However, with his length and quickness he can be a decent contributor in put backs and layups in transition. By no means can he be a stretch four, but he is working on his mid-range shot. If he can add that to his repertoire, he can be dangerous."
If the Celtics don't still have a bad taste in their mouth from drafting Fab Melo, another Syracuse big man, a few years ago, then they shouldn't hesitate to take Christmas if he's still on the board after the first round.
They badly need someone with his skill-set.
