Report: 76ers rookie Jahlil Okafor will have security guard when he goes out
The Philadelphia 76ers are taking more precautions with Jahlil Okafor after the rookie has gotten himself into some trouble lately.
According to a report, Okafor will have a security guard made available to him by the team whenever he goes out. ESPN’s Chris Broussard says Okafor’s people made the request, which the team will honor.
Okafor, the No. 3 overall pick in the NBA Draft, was in a fight last weekend after a loss in Boston (video here).
The Philadelphia Inquirer also reported that a heckler pointed a gun at Okafor’s head in a separate incident in Philadelphia in October. Additionally, reports said the former Duke star was pulled over for doing 108 mph on a Philadelphia bridge and that he allegedly tried using a fake ID.
Okafor is only 19, and he’s one of the bright spots on an embarrassingly bad 76ers team. He’s averaging 17.5 points and 8.2 rebounds in his rookie season. Having the security when he goes out is a great idea and hopefully will help him stay out of trouble.
