Report: Brook Lopez opts out of contract; Nets still intent to re-sign him
The inevitable has finally arrived. Brook Lopez is readying to enter free agency, per Yahoo Sports/FOX Sports 1 NBA Insider Adrian Wojnarowski:
Yahoo Sports cited league sources saying both Brooklyn big man Lopez and Thaddeus Young are opting out of their current contracts. But the sources also said Nets general manager Billy King is determined to keep both players and the players declared for free agency with "strong intentions of reaching agreement on new deals with Brooklyn."
Lopez, 27, who had a $16.7 million player option for next season, is said to likely seek a three-year, $60 million maximum contract extension, according to Yahoo Sports. Power forward Young, also 27, is said to be looking at something like a four-year, $48 million-plus deal.
