Report: Hard-luck Memphis Grizzlies won't get Mike Conley back

Published Apr. 5, 2016 6:40 a.m. ET

The Memphis Grizzlies have been hit especially hard by injuries this season, but don't expect a reprieve for the playoffs.

Their point guard, Mike Conley, has been out since early March with an Achilles' injury and won't be healthy in time for the playoffs, says Ronald Tillery of The Commercial Appeal.

The paper reports Conley, who hasn't played since March 6, is still in a walking boot and that team doctors determined last week that not returning this season was in his best interests.

This doesn't bode well for the Grizzlies, who currently hold the fifth spot in the Western Conference standings, but are 2-8 over their last 10 games.

Conley will be a free agent this summer. He has spent his entire career with the Grizzlies since being drafted by the team with the fourth overall pick in 2007. He's averaged 13.6 points and 5.6 assists per game during his career, but was averaging 15.3 and 6.1 this season before he was hurt.

He's joined on the sideline by Marc Gasol (broken foot), Brandan Wright and Jordan Adams (both out with knee injuries) and P.J. Hairston (hamstring).

Only Hairston appears ready to return any time soon.
