Report: Jackson wants Kerr to join him in Chicago for draft combine

The latest sign that the Knicks are nearing a deal to land Steve Kerr as their next head coach: Team president Phil Jackson wants Kerr to accompany him to Thursday's draft combine in Chicago, the New York Daily News reports.

Talk that Kerr would join his former coach in New York has been bubbling since the Knicks fired Mike Woodson last month, and reports of the sides being close to a deal go back several days. So what's the hold-up? Yahoo Sports reports that the Knicks have been slow to overpay for Kerr's services, given he will be a rookie head coach.

Even if (or when) Kerr finalizes a deal, he will complete his TNT broadcasting duties, which run through the Western Conference finals. Kerr spent three years as GM of the Phoenix Suns before returning to broadcasting.
