Report: Kings could dismiss George Karl as soon as this week
A win on Wednesday over the Detroit Pistons will help calm the waters in Sacramento for now. But the turmoil surrounding the Kings doesn't sound like it'll be subsiding any time soon.
Numerous reports this week indicated that Kings center DeMarcus Cousins cursed out coach George Karl in front of the team, an event which led to a team meeting where general manager Vlade Divac reportedly asked the team if Karl should be fired. And according to Sam Amick of USA Today, there could be fire to this smoke:
If the Kings’ 1-7 record that prompted a team meeting on Tuesday gets even worse, his dismissal could come this week.
A report from CBS Sports adds that if the question is whether Cousins or Karl ends up out of town first, the answer "could be both." According to a source in the same report, the relationship between the mercurial big man and his head coach was "doomed from the start."
Many of these reports came out before Sacramento's Wednesday win, however, and the Kings have lost several games this season in which Cousins was absent due to an Achilles injury. When the team's superstar plays, Sacramento is a competitive outfit. Without Cousins, however, the team has fallen apart on the court.
