Report: Kings shopping Rudy Gay and trying to get Rajon Rondo

Published Jun. 23, 2015 3:36 p.m. ET

DeMarcus Cousins isn't the only King on the trading block. Apparently, Sacramento is willing to unload anyone, and that includes Rudy Gay.

From Sporting News' Scott Ridge:

Rondo majorly struggled with the Mavericks this past season after coming over from the Celtics. It doesn't appear the market for him is particularly strong, yet, Sacramento seems willing to move pieces to make his acquisition happen. The Kings have changed the pieces of the front-office, but the puzzle so far looks exactly the same.

The soon-to-be 29-year-old Gay averaged 21.1 points and 5.9 rebounds per game this past season.

The latest, according to Yahoo Sports, is the team exploring Rudy Gay trade scenarios — along with everyone else on the roster. The report cited unnamed league sources.

One theory is the Kings are looking at clearing cap space to pursue free-agent point guard Rajon Rondo.

Gay's three-year, $40 million extension kicks in next season and it’s thought he’s more likely to be moved than teammate DeMarcus Cousins considering recent statements by Kings vice president Vlade Divac.
