Report: Knicks' Cleanthony Early released from hospital
The situation Cleanthony Early recently found himself in -- allagedly being attacked by assailants who cornered the Uber he was riding in, shot him and robbed him -- is about as horrifying a scenario as anyone could imagine, but it could have been worse. Far worse. In some ways, Early was lucky.
The bullet went straight through Early's knee, and though he will miss some time from the court, doctors expect a full recovery. Now, it appears Early is already out of the hospital. From Al Iannazzone of Newsday:
“He’s been released to go home, and that’s all good,” said Derek Fisher, who wouldn’t address when Early could be back practicing.
“I think right now is not the time for us to get into those discussions,” he said.
One of Early's New York Knicks teammates, Langston Galloway, said he planned to visit Early after the Knicks' game Sunday. Galloway emphasized that for all of the horror caused by this "crazy" and "scary" situation, Early is "blessed" to have made it out in relatively OK shape.
According to subsequent reports, a Molotov cocktail was thrown through a window of the same club that Early had visited. That incident appears to be unrelated to Early's robbery. Early's teammate Carmelo Anthony told the media that NBA players "are all targets" when they're out. Anthony also called for something to be done about gun violence.
