Report: NBA 'interested' in moving draft to July, adding awards show

The NBA could be contemplating major changes to its offseason calendar.

The league is "very interested" in moving the draft after the start of free agency (July 1) and adding a season-ending awards show, which could take place a day after the draft, USA Today reports.

The NBA would like to better promote the draft and believes moving the event farther from the Finals would give the league more time to create buzz, according to the report.

This potential shift would push free agency even deeper into July, further lengthening the NBA's seemingly year-long news cycle. The league also would have to negotiate the change with its TV partners, whose deal with the NBA expires after the 2015-16 season.
