Report: Wizards' pitch to Kevin Durant will be 'low-key and simple'
The Washington Wizards have a real shot at signing Kevin Durant next summer. If they do, he'll immediately elevate them from a pretty good team to a potential juggernaut.
But first they need to pitch him. And it's something they really can't afford to screw up. According to Sporting News' Sean Deveney, here's Washington's plan:
Washington’s pursuit of Durant will be low-key and simple, a person familiar with the team’s outlook told Sporting News. Durant is not a bells-and-whistles type, and the Wizards seem to think that the lure of home and the presence of young stars (Bradley) Beal and John Wall, along with a new practice facility, will be enough to persuade Durant to come to Washington.
It's unclear what will or won't work, or if a single pitch meeting will really sway Durant's final decision, when he's had years to think it over.
But blowing him away probably wouldn't hurt their chances, and they aren't the only team that will try.
