Stan Van Gundy's scouting big men for draft in Spain

Stan Van Gundy loves three-point shooting. A "four-out" offense, revolving around the post play of Dwight Howard and a collection of perimeter men, was one of the hallmarks of his successful tenure with the Orlando Magic.

And, according to recent reports, he's looking to bring some of those same principles to his Detroit Pistons. Terry Foster of the Detroit News claims that Van Gundy and Pistons GM Jeff Bower were recently in Spain, looking at two deep-shooting big men as potential draft targets.

Kristaps Porzingis of Latvia is one, and Mario Hezonja of Croatia is the other. Both players would be projects, but it's not as if Van Gundy is afraid of those. His transactions with the Pistons have been largely about shedding middling veterans for youthful players with greater upsides.

Porzingis may be out of the Pistons' range, as he's quickly become one of the darlings of the draft class as scouts see more and more of him. It would take some very good luck with lottery ping pong balls to bring the Pistons within his range.
