Thaddeus Young hits game-winner for Indiana Pacers (Video)

Thaddeus Young capped off a 9-0 run for the Indiana Pacers with a game-winning basket over Markieff Morris Monday night.

Holding a 105-98 lead with roughly two minutes to play, it seemed like the Washington Wizards had their fourth straight win in the bag. Thanks to Thaddeus Young and a late surge over those final two minutes, the Indiana Pacers were able to pull out the home win.

Outscoring Washington 9-0 over the game’s final two minutes, the Pacers improved to 15-14 on the season, including 11-4 at home. The finishing touch, however, was supplied by forward Thaddeus Young, who put Indiana up 107-105 with 0.9 seconds left.

With 4.6 seconds left in the game, Young caught an inbounds pass at the top of the key from the sideline. He drove past his defender Markieff Morris and floated a tough shot in the lane over his man to supply Indiana with the game-winner.

Even though he let him drive a little too deep, that’s a pretty well-defended shot from Morris. Fortunately for the Pacers, Young was able to put just enough loft on it to float it over the outstretched arm of his defender and into the basket.

Young finished the game with 12 points and 11 rebounds on 5-of-9 shooting in his 38 minutes of action. Paul George led all scorers with 27, Jeff Teague finished with 23 and Myles Turner added 20. Bradley Beal led the Wizards with 22.

The Pacers were predicted by many to be a top-four seed in the East this year, with Paul George emerging as a potential MVP candidate.

Though there’s still plenty of time left in the 2016-17 campaign, it’s beginning to feel like that’s not going to happen thanks to Indiana’s lackluster defense and an offense that has been nowhere near as potent as expected. Perhaps this win pushing them back above .500 will help build some momentum.

The Wizards, meanwhile, are battling an ugly 2-8 start. They’ve won 10 of their last 17 games since then, but the top eight playoff spots in the East are still quite a few games away. Giving up 9-0 runs over the last two minutes of games probably won’t help matters.
