The Celtics should draft the best player available, no matter what

The Boston Celtics have a few glaring weaknesses and a few areas in need of a tuneup. Their backcourt is a potential strength, but as of now nothing is set in stone and no talent is definitively staying put.

That's the belief of WEEI's Ben Rohrbach, who writes that the Celtics shouldn't worry about drafting for need, and should instead take the best player available with the 16th and 28th overall picks in this year's draft:

"With that in mind, does any one player on the Celtics make you stop and think, 'Yeah, he’s their foundational starter at his position on a championship team'? The answer is no, right? Marcus Smart may one day offer a rebuttal, but nobody should be penciling him in as the starting point guard on the road to Banner 18 just yet, despite an occasionally impressive Second Team All-Rookie campaign."

But all in all, they don't have a lottery pick, and it's uncertain whoever the Celtics take with their first-round picks ever cracks their rotation. In that case, they may as well take whoever they consider to be the best.
