The Toronto Raptors still have no idea who they're going to draft
The NBA draft is two short days away. By now, most teams have settled on their top target, and formed multiple contingency plans if that target isn't available by the time they're on the clock. The Toronto Raptors, according to their director of scouting Scott Tolzman, still don't know who they're going to draft:
"'Man, I wish I knew [who the Raptors are drafting],' says Tolzman, 'I wish it was that easy. I think we’ll be debating that right up until our pick is on the board.'"
Of course, no one, not even teams themselves, can predict what will happen the night of the draft. But it's important for teams to plan for whatever can happen, and it appears as if the Raptors have such a strategy in place.
"'As players come off the board we’ll try not to go below a line to draft for need. If, say, we have four small forwards already and our best player available in Tier 2 is a small forward, we’re going to take that guy. We’re not going to reach into Tier 3 if we don’t need to.'"
