Tim Duncan cracks record-tying 15th All-NBA team
As if we need another reminder that Tim Duncan is the most impressive star of his era, and one of the five or six best players in basketball history, on Thursday, at the age of 39, he was named to the 2014-15 All-NBA third team.
It's the 15th time he's qualified for one of the teams, which, historically speaking, is nearly unprecedented.
The San Antonio Express-News' Jeff McDonald has more on Duncan's accomplishment:
"The veteran Spurs forward was named to the All-NBA third team on Thursday, the 15th time in his career that Duncan has been named to one of the squads. That ties an NBA record shared by Los Angeles Lakers greats Kobe Bryant and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Duncan, who turned 39 last month, is the oldest player to be named to an All-NBA team since Abdul-Jabbar earned that designation during his age-38 campaign in 1985-86. It marked Duncan’s second All-NBA mention in five seasons."
Duncan's per game averages weren't eye-popping (13.9 points, 9.1 rebounds and 3.0 assists), but he was a brilliant defender who refused to let the Spurs collapse in a season full of various injuries.
He was awesome, and this honor is more than deserved. Hopefully he returns next season for a shot at 16.
