US names roster hopefuls for Basketball World Cup qualifiers
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) The U.S. has invited 14 players to training camp it will use to select its roster for the next stage of qualifying games for the Basketball World Cup.
The players who will be in camp include Larry Drew II, Semaj Christon and Travis Wear, who all played for the Americans in the fall when they won their first two qualifying games. Also attending will be: Taylor Braun, Alonzo Gee, Aaron Harrison, Terrence Jones, Trey McKinney Jones, Rodney Purvis, Xavier Silas, David Stockton, Rashawn Thomas, Marcus Thornton and Devin Williams.
USA Basketball announced Thursday that the Americans will train Feb. 15-20 in Los Angeles and then choose 12 players to suit up for coach Jeff Van Gundy when they face Cuba and Puerto Rico later this month in Santa Cruz, California.
The 13 players currently in the NBA G League - all except Christon - will also form NBA G League USA and play an exhibition game against the Mexican national team during All-Star weekend.
