Utah Jazz: Joel Bolomboy Is Back After Season's Longest D-League Assignment
After getting in some game action with the D-League’s Salt Lake City Stars, Utah Jazz rookie Joel Bolomboy has been recalled to the main roster.
Joel Bolomboy hasn’t gotten much run so far during his rookie season with the Utah Jazz. Through nearly two months of games, the former Weber State star has played just 17 total minutes, averaging 0.9 points and 1.0 rebounds per game.
However, he likely leads the team in fuel points.
With a scarcity of minutes on the main roster, Bolomboy has been back and forth between the Jazz and the Salt Lake City Stars at a breakneck pace as the team works to get him court time. In total, Bolomboy has been assigned to/recalled from Utah’s D-League affiliate squad no less than five times.
Per an announcement from the Jazz on Monday, Bolomboy has been recalled from the Stars once again. Although his previous stints with the Stars had largely been one or two-day affairs, this most recent turn was his longest and most productive D-League run of the season.

Bolomboy appeared in two games with Salt Lake City over the course of a four-day assignment. On December 16 against the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, he scored 13 points on 5-of-9 shooting, grabbed 13 rebounds and added one assist and one block.
He was even better on the following night against those same Vipers, scoring 28 points on 10-of-15 from the field to go along with 19 rebounds, six blocks, two assists and two steals.
In other words, Bolomboy put up AK-47 numbers.
More from Purple and Blues
Now, with the Jazz set to travel to Oakland for a tough road bout with Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant and the Golden State Warriors, Bolomboy was recalled and should be in uniform for the game.
Whether or not he gets any work in remains to be seen. Frankly, if he does get into the game, it likely means the Jazz getting blown. Nevertheless, Bolomboy continues to travel the road (literally) of a first-year player fighting for time and his stops with the Stars can only help him along the way.
