Watch: Cavs' Kevin Love scores 34 points in first quarter vs. Blazers
Cavs forward Kevin Love came out scorching on Wednesday night against Portland, nearly breaking an NBA record for points in one quarter with 34 in the first period.
Love shot 11–14, including eight threes, against his hometown Trail Blazers, coming close but not eclipsing Klay Thompson’s record of 37 points in a period. The eight three-balls, which came in four minutes, tied his career high in that area. Love set the record for most points ever scored in a first quarter.

Below is his shot chart for the period.
Love played the entire first quarter and rested to begin the second. The NBA record for points in a game belongs to Wilt Chamberlain, who scored 100 in March 1962. The most recent player to come anywhere close was Kobe Bryant, with an 81-point game in 2006.
