When are the Sacramento Kings going to fire head coach George Karl?

Published Feb. 8, 2016 1:01 p.m. ET

Sacramento's head coach George Karl is in serious danger of losing his job with the Kings, via multiple reports.

According to The Vertical, Karl's tenure as coach of the Kings is currently in critical condition. In the report, Yahoo's Chris Mannix calls Karl getting fired "an inevitability" after his team has now dropped seven of their last eight. In his report, Mannix explains the carying layers of dysfunction in Sacramento.

Players have tuned out Karl, privately seething over inefficient practices and shootarounds, and ineffective in-game adjustments from the bench, league sources told The Vertical. The dysfunction may have originated with Karl and DeMarcus Cousins, but it has spread through the locker room like an infection.

Indeed, barring a surprising turn of events, it’s more likely assistant coach Corliss Williamson finishes the season as the Kings head coach than Karl..

While point guard Rajon Rondo is apparently satisfied with Karl as a coach, the above report indicates the rest of the team isn't quite as happy.

Karl, who ranks fifth for most coaching wins in NBA history, would become the fifth coach to get fired this season. Houston fired Kevin McHale in November; Brooklyn fired Lionel Hollins and Cleveland fired David Blatt in January. Earlier this month, Phoenix fired Jeff Hornacek and this morning New York fired Derek Fisher.

While Sacramento ranks third in the NBA with 107.1 points per game, the team is still outscored in team point differential -- allowing a league-worst 108.9 points per game on defense.

Mannix reports Karl could get the boot as soon as Monday in Cleveland, Wednesday in Philadelphia or any time during the upcoming All-Star weekend break.
