Wizards GM Grunfeld: We're going best player available in draft
The Washington Wizards may be in a difficult position when it comes to the NBA Draft. At pick No. 19, they may not have someone on their draft board who they are enamored with. Or, they might have too many prospects they like.
That's not different from most teams on draft day, but the Wizards are standing firm on what their approach to the draft will be.
Here's more on the strategy of Wizards GM Ernie Grunfeld from Jorge Castillo of the Washington Post:
"The Wizards aren’t scheduled to pick until No. 19, and they also currently hold the 49th selection. A consensus is impossible when selecting that late in the first round. The Wizards have specific needs, but the strategy, according to General Manager Ernie Grunfeld, is to take the “best player available” at both spots — if they don’t execute a trade to climb or slide in the order in what is expected to be an active night of dealing around the league.
“We’re going best player available. I think that’s the way you have to go,” Grunfeld said in a telephone interview Wednesday. “And who fits into what we’re trying to do. We’ve had a lot of conversations about certain things that might be available, possibly moving up, and we’re going to continue those. And then we’ll see who’s available when it’s our turn to pick.”
