2017 NFL Draft: Clemson Wayne Gallman Scouting Report
Clemson’s Wayne Gallman is a highly productive and explosive 2017 NFL Draft running back prospect.
Wayne Gallman is a versatile running back who has plenty of ways to hurt a defense. He uses his excellent burst to press the hole and break off long runs. This is a running back who can both work between the tackles and attack the edge.
Gallman features good patience showing a willingness to let his blocks develop. His jump-cut then allows him to quickly change direction and get down field. He has a knack for making himself skinny through the hole.
His ability to work between the tackles is because of his vision and ability to get thin. Gallman isn’t a power runner struggling to move the pile. This has a lot to do with the fact he runs upright rather than behind his pads.
More from With the First Pick
Gallman is a sold receiver out of the backfield who plucks the ball out of the air. He then uses his explosive burst to pick up yards after the catch.
It’s that burst that makes Gallman a strong prospect as he’s able to produce big plays and squeeze through quick closing holes.
The biggest issue facing Gallman is his troubles in pass protection. He approaches pass rushers with hesitation and lack of balance. Gallman prefers to lower his head and throw a shoulder into the rusher. This results in a lot of missed blocks or Gallman getting pushed back into the quarterback.
There’s a place in the NFL for someone with Gallman’s running ability, but he’ll struggle to get on the field unless he makes majors strides in his pass protection.
