49ers defense seeking another strong outing in Week 2
The 49ers defense made a statement in Week 1.
For a unit that lost a number of key players in the offseason, it looked like they didn't miss a beat.
The defense limited the Vikings to just three points, sacked Teddy Bridgewater five times and limited Adrian Peterson to just 31 yards rushing.
“They played very good, stout defense, particularly situationally,” head coach Mike Tomlin said on a conference call with Bay Area media, via San Jose Mercury News. “They spun the dial, won third down, and did a good job getting after the quarterback.”
But this performance also came at home, at Levi's Stadium, backed by thousands of fans.
The 49ers now hit the road in Week 2 to take on a more potent Steelers team, at least offensively.
Pittsburgh will be without Le'Veon Bell (suspension), but still have Ben Roethlisberger under center, flanked by Antonio Brown on the outside.
DeAngelo Williams also filled in admirably for Bell in Week 1 at New England.
If the 49ers hope to secure another win, they'll likely need a second strong outing from their defense.
