49ers Trade Deadline: Joe Staley Update
With the NFL Trade Deadline fast approaching, San Francisco 49ers left tackle Joe Staley continues to be the subject of trade rumors. Whether or not the 49ers pull the trigger remains to be seen. Here is the latest on the potential trade.
The San Francisco 49ers are rumored to have placed Joe Staley, their mainstay offensive lineman and left tackle, on the trade block. Despite head coach Chip Kelly‘s denials, rumors continue to swirl regarding the Pro Bowl tackle. And in the NFL, where there’s smoke, there’s usually fire.
Left tackle is an important position in the NFL, and numerous contenders could use an upgrade. Meanwhile, the lowly 49ers have already said goodbye to any hope of success — or even mediocrity — this season by virtue of their 1-6 start.
It would make sense if Staley, 32, wanted to chase a Super Bowl ring with a contender rather than spend the remaining years of his career on a 49ers team that is, at best, years away from another chance. On the flip side, Staley has spent his entire career thus far with the 49ers and may wish to finish his career with the only team he has known.

What Staley is considering can only be speculation at this point, but what is known is that the 49ers need help — lots of help — for their rebuild and other teams need a left tackle.
