Adrian Peterson has apparent right leg injury, will have MRI on Monday
The Minnesota Vikings, already without quarterback Teddy Bridgewater for the season, must hope they get better news on the injury star running back Adrian Peterson suffered Sunday night against the Green Bay Packers.
Peterson had a brace on his right leg and was seen on crutches after the game. He is scheduled to have an MRI on Monday.
Peterson’s lower right leg was rolled up on by a Packers defender at the end of a carry midway through the third quarter. He couldn’t put any weight on the injury as he required assistance to leave the field.
Peterson then spent a few minutes being looked at by a trainer on the sideline before NBC cameras picked him up being helped in the same way – hopping on one leg – into the locker room. NBC reported that the trainer was working on Peterson’s right knee. The team officially ruled him out of the game within a few minutes.
Vikings coach Mike Zimmer downplayed the injury after the game.
"He might miss a week. I don't know if he will or not," Zimmer told reporters. "Whatever it was has calmed down now, so we'll see."
The running back tore his left ACL at the end of the 2011 season but famously recovered in time to lead the NFL in rushing in 2012 and again last season.
Peterson, 31, left the game with just 12 carries for 19 yards after running 19 times for 31 yards in Week 1.
