Adrian Peterson runs sprints at practice, is 'probably ahead of schedule'

The Minnesota Vikings and their last-ranked run game desperately needs a lift at running back. Jerick McKinnon and Matt Asiata aren’t getting the job done, and their lack of production is in turn hurting Sam Bradford and the passing attack.

Adrian Peterson remains on IR with a knee injury, but he’s slowly working his way back and could return to the Vikings before season’s end. On Tuesday, he continued his rehab work by running sprints at practice on the indoor practice field. This wasn’t Peterson’s first time running, according to Mike Zimmer, and is currently ahead of schedule.

"He's doing good," Zimmer said, via ESPN. "He's probably ahead of schedule, I guess."

While it’s certainly good news that Peterson has begun running sprints, it doesn’t mean he’s ready to return to practice. That will likely take a little bit more time, considering it’s a knee injury he’s rehabbing which can be tricky to heal.

Zimmer didn’t offer a timetable for Peterson’s return, saying that’ll take care of itself in the future.

"We'll worry about all that when that happens," Zimmer said. "Right now, we have to focus on Dallas and their team."

The Vikings need Peterson more than any other team needs one of their injured players to return, and he could be the key to their potential run at the playoffs.
