Adrian Peterson will have surgery on torn meniscus, out multiple games
The Minnesota Vikings will be without their star running back for several weeks, if not more. Adrian Peterson told Josina Anderson of ESPN that he’s planning to have surgery on his torn meniscus Thursday and is expected to miss multiple games. He’s “doing it with faith and optimism.”
Vikings coach Mike Zimmer told reporters it's unclear how long Peterson will be out.
"Everything is possible," Zimmer said. "It could be season ending. It could be three weeks, four weeks. I don't know."
Peterson, 31, suffered the injury in the third quarter of Sunday night’s game against the Green Bay Packers. It’s not nearly as serious as a torn ACL or patellar tendon injury, but this obviously isn’t something a veteran back wants to go through — especially after battling through an ACL injury to his other knee in the past.
Peterson was off to a rough start this season, rushing for 50 yards on 31 carries in two games. Jerick McKinnon and Matt Asiata will handle the workload for however long Peterson is sidelined.
