Advice to Browns coach Mike Pettine: Stay the course
Coming off a season in which he lost five straight games, Mike Pettine received some mildly surprising advice from two former players turned NFL analysts -- keep doing what you're doing.
"I would say this to Mike: don't change your approach," said Brian Baldinger on the NFL Network, via ClevelandBrowns.com. "Obviously they are starved for a winner in Cleveland. But don’t change and shortchange yourself in order to make a step you’re not ready to make. He wants to build a smart, tough, bully – in a very tough division. He's cut his teeth in this league on defense. Fix that defense and keep the score down. The offense will catch up."
Fellow analyst Michael Robinson concurred, saying Pettine started this offseason on the right foot by saying Josh McCown his likely starter.
"Honestly, I think he’s handled the Johnny Manziel hoopla great," Robinson said. "I think he’s been honest. I think the players there believe in his philosophy. They believe in him. That’s really all you can ask for."
