Ameer Abdullah says its always the RB's job to make first man miss
The Detroit Lions' running backs haven't found much room to run this season. The blocking has been suspect, but electric rookie Ameer Abdullah doesn't care. In his mind, it's on the ball-carrier to beat the first man.
"Make him miss," Abdullah said, per Justin Rogers of MLive.com.
Abdullah is a gifted athlete who can make lightning-quick cuts. While he may be agile enough to make the first man miss, not every running back is blessed with that ability.
The only way to ensure an improved running game is to get better blocking out of the offensive line.
"I think (we're) close," Abdullah said, via MLive.com. "It's there. The talent is there, the scheme is there, we just have to go out and execute. We have to trust in the running game, we have to be committed to the running game as a unit and as a team."
Abdullah is the Lions leading rusher with only 59 yards (4.5 yards per carry) through two games. If Detroit can get the ground game going, they'll be able to get the rookie more touches and make the offense more dynamic.
