Antrel Rolle says Kyle Fuller must become a 'true professional'
Antrel Rolle is not one to mince words. The veteran safety says what's on his mind, and that ability to communicate is part of what makes him a strong leader in the Chicago Bears' defensive backfield.
So, when Rolle was asked during a radio interview to comment on the benching of cornerback Kyle Fuller in the fourth quarter of last Sunday's 48-23 loss to the Arizona Cardinals, the outspoken member of the secondary was candid.
"I’m fully confident in Kyle," Rolle said, per Rich Campell of the Chicago Tribune. "I just felt like he’s a young guy being asked to do big things at such a young age early in his career. And that’s fine. He’s a first-round pick. You have to have high expectations for him.
“So with Kyle, I just need him to -- he has to be a true professional, and he has to be a true studier of film. And more importantly, he has to play with his strengths. If you’re going to press a guy, you have to make sure you put your hands on a guy. You can’t line up in front of a guy and then not disrupt him whatsoever."
Fuller, 23, is still a young guy, only in his second NFL season. Opposing passers have picked on him a bit this year, and he has delivered them two pass interference calls for a total of 76 yards over the last two games, per the Chicago Tribune.
There's a lot Fuller, a first-round pick in last year's draft (No. 14 overall), can still learn from an experienced D-back like Rolle. He would be wise to listen up and heed his advice.
