Aqib Talib returning to Denver Broncos practice before the bye
Denver Broncos star cornerback Aqib Talib is returning to practice before the bye week, giving the Broncos’ defense a huge boost in the secondary…
It hasn’t been difficult to see the difference Aqib Talib makes in the Denver Broncos’ secondary.
Playing at a borderline defensive MVP level this season, Talib has missed the last couple of games with a back injury, and his presence in the secondary has been sorely missed.
Bradley Roby, the team’s first round pick in 2014, did an excellent job in relief of Talib for two out of the three games the Broncos have played in his absence, but was absolutely torched in the team’s loss to the Oakland Raiders and embarrassed on national TV.
Roby works exceptionally well with Talib and Chris Harris Jr., but is a risk taker and can get burned on occasion when he plays tight man-to-man coverage.
Talib’s presence back at practice has brought on a collective sigh of relief for the Broncos’ players and coaches alike.

“It was really good,” head coach Gary Kubiak said in regards to Talib’s return to practice. “I think I told you guys yesterday he worked a little bit on his own. I watched him from upstairs. He’s feeling good. The injection was a successful thing that they did. I know how excited he is about the last six weeks, so it’s good to see him get some work in. We’ll pick it up again next week.”
The Denver Broncos’ No Fly Zone just isn’t the same without Talib. He has a little bit of that crazy on-field persona, and while it has resulted in some out of control play at times, Talib is certainly the type of player that has proven his importance within the Denver defense.
“It’s his attitude,” Kubiak says. “He’s just such a positive play-making, energy guy. Aqib is a loud guy, a personality, but it’s all about football when he’s out here. He’s very bright. We missed him. It’s great to have him back and it’s just great to know that he’s feeling well.”
Coming out of the bye will be the healthiest the Broncos have been since the start of the season as a collective unit defensively. DeMarcus Ware has missed time, Derek Wolfe has missed time, Talib has missed time, and guys like Brandon Marshall have been dinged up as well.
The defense will be at full strength coming out of this bye week, ready for a stretch run and another shot at the Super Bowl.
