Are the Dallas Cowboys still America's team?
After going 4-12 in 2014 and becoming one of the worst teams in the league, the Dallas Cowboys have rebounded in a big way. They’ve won seven of their first eight games and are tied for the best record in football with the New England Patriots.
As a result, fans are coming out of the woodwork to support their team after being embarrassed by them a year ago. The fan base is flowing with excitement, which has stirred up an important debate – no, not Prescott vs. Romo.
It's this: Are the Cowboys still America’s team?
Given their success and sheer dominance in merchandise sales, it’s hard to argue against them being America’s team. Dak Prescott, Ezekiel Elliott, Dez Bryant and Jason Witten are all among the top 15 in jersey sales, proving there are still fans of Dallas all around the country.
However, Hall of Fame wide receiver Cris Carter doesn’t think they hold that coveted title anymore. He thinks the Packers, Patriots, Steelers and the Broncos are more worthy of being called America’s team, mainly because they’ve been more successful than Dallas has been.
Here’s what Carter had to say on Tuesday’s “Undisputed” on FS1:
“The Dallas Cowboys are in there. From purchasing power, yeah they’re one of the most popular teams,” Carter said. “But let’s look at records. How can they be the favorite team of America? They’ve got a lot of purchasing power. They’ve got a great fan base. They’ve got a great following, but they’re following from 30 and 40 years ago.”
