Bears may be hurting at receiver, but they're loaded at running back
The Chicago Bears' top four wide receivers are all injured, leaving quarterback Jay Cutler with few reliable targets. Luckily for him, Cutler can still hand off to his stable of talented running backs.
"I wouldn’t want to be the guy that has to make that decision [on which running backs to keep]," Cutler said, per ESPN's Jeff Dickerson. "We got the rookie, Jeremy Langford. We’ve got some other guys that came on. Jacquizz Rodgers has had a great preseason. Langford has had a good preseason. Twenty-five, Ka'Deem Carey, has come on. He’s run the ball extremely hard. I know Stan (Drayton) is doing a great job with those guys making sure they’re on their stuff. Every time you give a guy the ball, it seems like they’re getting some chunks here and there. So I don’t know how it’s going to shake out."
Matt Forte, 29, will be the starter and the workhorse. He has rushed for more than 925 yards in each of his seven seasons in the NFL. More importantly, given the Chicago's current situation at receiver, Forte is also an effective pass-catcher coming out of the backfield.
Behind Forte, there's a promising Langford, Rodgers and Carey. There's also Senorise Perry and Daniel Thomas behind those three. The Bears can't stash them all on the roster, so some tough cuts will have to be made in the coming weeks.
