Bears name five captains for 2015 season
The Chicago Bears announced their team captains for the 2015 season in a series of Instagram posts on Tuesday. The five players named were running back Matt Forte, quarterback Jay Cutler, safety Antrel Rolle, linebacker Pernell McPhee and kicker Robbie Gould.
Forte and Cutler will serve as the offensive representatives at the center of the field before each game. Forte joined the Bears in 2008 as a second-round draft pick and has accumulated 11,431 yards from scrimmage since then. Cutler joined a year later via a trade with the Denver Broncos and has put up 18,725 passing yards with the Bears.
Rolle and McPhee are the defensive leaders. Both players were signed by the Bears in free agency this offseason. Rolle is a passionate and vocal defensive back who won a Super Bowl with the New York Giants after the 2011 season; McPhee is an emerging pass-rusher who won a Super Bowl with the Baltimore Ravens a year later.
Gould will represent Chicago's special teams. He is the longest-tenured of the five captains, as he joined the Bears back in 2005 as an undrafted rookie. The steadfast kicker has hit 85.6 percent of his career field goal attempts.
