Bears WR Alshon Jeffery suspended four games for violating PED policy
The Chicago Bears’ disastrous season just got a whole lot worse. The league announced Monday that wide receiver Alshon Jeffery has been suspended four games without pay for violating the league’s performance enhancing drug policy.
Jeffery has been the Bears’ best receiver this season with Kevin White sidelined due to injury. He’s caught 40 passes for 630 yards and one touchdown in nine games.
He’s currently playing on the franchise tag after he and the Bears failed to reach a long-term agreement in the offseason. The suspension will cost him $3.435 million this season, but the real hit to his wallet will come in the offseason.
Given his injury history and unreliability on the field, Jeffery now stands to make significantly less money when he hits the open market next year. No team is going to pay him like a top receiver after playing a maximum of 21 games in two years.
Jeffery responded to the news on Twitter late Monday.
