Bengals cut seven, including WR Denarius Moore

Published Aug. 31, 2015 3:52 p.m. ET

The Bengals made their first wave of roster cuts Monday, with veteran receiver Denarius Moore among seven players released.

Moore, signed this offseason after four seasons with the Raiders, hoping to rekindle some of the success he had with Bengals offensive coordinator Hue Jackson in Oakland. Moore caught 33 passes for 618 yards and five touchdowns as a rookie in 2011 when Jackson was the head coach. He only had one reception in three preseason games.

Moore's release could pave the way for undrafted free agent Jake Kumerow to make the roster.

Also released were linebacker Nico Johnson, defensive linemen Kwame Geathers and Sam Montgomery, offensive lineman Chris Jasperse, receiver Desmond Lawrence and tight end John Peters. The Bengals still need to make five more cuts to get the roster down to 75 players ahead of Tuesday's 4 p.m. deadline.

Johnson led the Bengals with 14 tackles this preseason. He started two games for Cincinnati last season after he was signed off the Chiefs' practice squad.
