Bengals Receiver A.J. Green Tears Hamstring in Loss
The Cincinnati Bengals (3-6-1) suffered a massive blow to their offense
Star receiver, A.J. Green tore his hamstring early in their 16-12 loss to the Buffalo Bills today. Green suffered the injury on the second play of the game, and he was carted back to the locker room.
Green was targeted only one time today on a second-and-15 and went down clutching his hamstring after colliding with Stephon Gilmore. The loss of one of the league’s and the Bengals’ best receiver was felt immediately. The Bengals passing offense wasn’t the same and it felt as if they were not a real threat going downfield.
Green was ranked second in the league in receiving yards before his injury with 964 yards, and led the team in receptions, yards, and touchdowns. Moving forward, the loss of Green will undoubtedly hamper their offense.
Green, the fourth overall pick in the 2011 draft, has only missed four games in his NFL career. There’s no telling whether or not he will be able to come back this year with his injury, and at this point in the midst of the Bengals’ worst season in years it may not be worth rushing him back.
Their next leading receiver is running back Giovani Bernard who has 34 catches for 296 yards and one score. On the bright side, Green’s injury will allow their most recent second round pick, Tyler Boyd, to see more action moving forward. He had a receiving touchdown after Green left the game.
Regardless, this injury will seriously damage the Bengals’ offense, and their ability to stretch the field.
