Bill O'Brien: No quarterback controversy in Houston

Published Nov. 23, 2015 1:12 a.m. ET

Backup quarterback T.J. Yates may have helped lead the Houston Texans to two straight wins, but as far as head coach Bill O'Brien in concerned, there's no doubt Brian Hoyer is the team's starter moving forward.

Yates completed 16-of-34 passes for 229 yards and two touchdowns to guide the Texans to a 24-17 win over the win over the New York Jets on Sunday. Less than week earlier, the five-year veteran helped rally the team to an upset of the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday night.

O'Brien said Hoyer, who suffered a concussion against the Bengals and is hoping to return for next week's game against the New Orleans Saints, remains the unquestioned starter.

“Hoyer is our starter,” O’Brien said, per the Houston Chronicle. “When he comes back, when he’s healthy, he’ll come back in there and we’ve spoken to T.J. about that.”

In seven games this season, including five starts, Hoyer has thrown for 1,704 yards with 13 touchdowns and just four interceptions.
