Bills' Sammy Watkins says Tyrod Taylor has to trust O-line

Buffalo Bills quarterback has the ability to make plays with his legs like few other quarterbacks in the NFL. However, with that comes the need to stay in the pocket, as well.

On Sunday against the New England Patriots, Taylor was sacked eight times. Obviously, not all of those eight could be put on Taylor or the offensive line, alone, but it's far too high of a number, regardless.

That was just one of the issues for the Bills in Week 2 as they failed to follow up a great performance against the Colts in the season opener. Wide receiver Sammy Watkins talked about the team's struggles in the locker room on Tuesday.

"For the most part, I think we're doing pretty well," he said via Mike Rodak of ESPN. "We just got to eliminate the turnovers. We got to move the ball down the field, for the most part. I think Tyrod got to gain trust in the lineman. We got to gain trust from Tyrod. And I think once we get everybody to trust each other, it'll be much easier."

With regards to Watkins saying Taylor has to trust the offensive line, he's likely talking about his quarterback pulling the ball down and running too quickly. There were several instances on Sunday when Taylor left the pocket before the pressure reached him, causing the play to break down.

Head coach Rex Ryan saw the same thing Watkins did.

"We had some guys open," he said. "Sometimes I think we have to step up into the pocket a little bit and we had some guys open. So we can be better in a lot of those areas.

"If I look at anything with Tyrod, I’d like to see him step back, set up and then step up in the pocket a little more. But hey to their credit, I mean shoot they were buzzing, shoot they had eight sacks. They were clearly doing something right."

The blame can't be put on one party for Sunday's loss as the Bills struggled in several areas. The Bills will look to rebound against the Miami Dolphins on Sunday in a showdown of 1-1 AFC East teams.
