Bortles' big day overshadowed by Jacksonville loss
A career day for Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Blake Bortles wasn't enough to top the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday.
Bortles completed 23 of 33 passes for 303 yards and a career-high four touchdowns in the 38-31 loss. The four touchdown passes eclipsed his previous best of two, which he'd accomplished four times.
“Obviously, not good enough,” Bortles said, per the Florida Times-Union. “It’s a team game — it’s not an offense or defense (only) type of deal so if they put up 38, we had to try and put up 39. We didn’t do that.
“It still comes down to the little things and the stupid mental errors. I thought the guys did a good job of that during practice, but it’s something that continues to show up on Sundays at every position.”
Bortles one major mistake was an interception by Buccaneers safety Bradley McDougald that led to a Tampa Bay touchdown.
Bortles' 125.4 passer rating was also a career best, surpassing his 102.2 performance in Jacksonville's Week 2 win over Miami.
